Story-Sammie's LIfe Ch.1 through 4

CHAPTER I

I must admit, I was scared at first. I mean wouldn’t you be, if you just had an accident and were on the brink of death. I know the feeling, it happened to me a few hours ago. I was riding in the car with my older brother, Jay, when we were hit by a truck. Jay would have died if I hadn’t done CPR. I wish I could have done more, but I couldn’t.
We were hit from the front. The driver was drunk and swayed into our lane. Jay didn’t see the truck because he was looking at me. I told him a joke and he was telling how funny it was.
So I just woke up in a hospital bed. Jay is in the bed next to me. He’s sleeping. We are both in the intensive care unit. I was looking around when a nurse came in. She saw I was awake and left to get the doctor, I think. But Mom and Dad came in the room instead. I think Mom was a little happy to see either Jay or me awake.
"Oh, Sammie you’re awake. I’m so glad and after all this time." Mom said.
I didn’t know what she meant by ‘all this time’. I guess I was in a coma.
"Sammie, you were asleep for so long," Dad said interrupting my thoughts.
"So long. One month is not that long Dad," my older sister Swan said, "Sammie, you were asleep for one month. Jay hasn’t woken up yet and the doctor is thinking of, how do I say this, ‘pulling the plug’."
I couldn’t help but scream. Everyone, Mom, Dad, Swan, even the nurse looked at me.
"They want him to die? How could they be so cruel?" I asked.
"No, sweetie, they just don’t want him in pain," Mom said "They think it would be easier."
"Can I be left alone with Jay for a while?" I couldn’t help but ask.
"You were alone with him for one month," Swan protested, "Can’t you spend some time with us now that you’re awake?"
"Let’s leave her alone. She’s had too much excitement already." Dad said.
"Bye, sweetie," Mom said kissing me good- bye.
"See you later little sis," Swan said patting my head.
Dad just left waving and nodding.
"Sammie, when you’re better can we play cards?" my younger brother, Todd and younger sister, Tammy, asked.
"I didn’t even see you two. Yes we can, only if you behave yourselves."
"We can do that." they answered.
"Good. Now go home with Mom and Dad," I told them.

CHAPTER @@II

When every one let so that it was just me and Jay, I couldn’t help but think. Why would they want to pull the plug? Mom and Dad actually seemed to agree. I don’t think Todd and Tammy realized the problem. Swan probably didn’t even care. She just wanted something.
I got up and went over to Jay. "Jay it’s me Sammie, butt you already know that. Jay, the doc wants to take you off the life support." He just lay there. I bent down and gave Jay a kiss on the cheek. That’s how we showed that we cared. "Jay, wake up, please. I don’t want you to die. I need you. Please!" I decided just in case Jay didn’t hear me, I would pray. That’s what I did, prayed. I ask God if he would take care of Jay while he was asleep. Plus to let me know first when he woke up.
I must’ve fallen asleep because when I opened my eyed again I was in a different room. I looked around and saw I was in a room by myself. I got up to get a drink of water, when I saw how horrible I looked. My hazel eyes had bags under them. My skin was full of scars not smooth anymore. And what used to be long brown hair was now short.
I ran out of the room and to the nurse’s station.
"What floor is Jay Koch on?" I asked the nurse.
"Oh, why are you family?"
"Yes. Yes, I am. I’m his sister."
"He’s on 2nd floor, room 210."
"Thank you, ma’am."

Chapter III

When I got to Jay’s room, Mom and Dad where there.
"Hi Mom. Hi dad," I said.
"Sweetie, what are you doing down here?" Asked mom.
"I came to see Jay," I told her as I walk to the bed. "Hi Jay. How are you?"
"Oh, slugger, he can’t hear you," Dad said all to sadly.
"Oh, dad. Sure he can. I told him to get better fast so it would give the doctor a reason not to ‘pull the plug’ as Swan puts it."
Mom started to get up and said, "Come on Tim, let’s go. Let’s leave Sammie alone with Jay."
When they left I took a better look at Jay. He’s hair was shaggy but still jet-black as ever. He was a little pale, but he still looked strong like he did when he played football with the guys. I was about to leave when I remembered to give him a kiss on the cheek. I went back and gave him his kiss. Then I felt this tap, I looked down and saw that it was Jay’s finger tapping me. I looked at his face; his eyes were semi open, just slits.
I almost screamed but couldn’t I was surprised to see that Jay woke up, somewhat.
"Jay, you’re awake."
"mmm," was all Jay could say.
"Oh, Jay, I prayed that I’d see you awake first, and I did." I bent down and gave him his kiss.
"Do you want me to get the nurse?" I asked.
Jay shook his head just a little.
"Jay, it’s all my fault, if I hadn’t told that joke you would have had your eye on the road, not me." I started to cry. "Oh, I’m sorry. It’s my fault, all my fault. Do you understand it’s my fault?"
Jay just looked and tried to point to the nightstand.
"What is it that you want?" I implied.
He gave a kind of a motion as if he wanted to write something. He was trying to communicate with sign language but it wasn’t working too well.
"Jay, you want some paper and a pencil, right?"
He nodded. So I ran out of the room and got some paper and a pen.
"Here, Jay," I said as I placed the paper down and gave him the pen.
He wrote, "It’s not your fault." I think. It was kind if messy.
"Then who’s fault is it if it’s not mine?"
"The drivers, The truck driver’s"
"Why because he was drunk?"
"Yes"
"Thanks for telling me the truth."

Chapter IV

I wonder what the kids at school will think when I get back. None of them have seen me after the accident.
"Sammie, why don’t you try some of my foundation. It will make the scars disappear until it wears off." Swan said.
"No thanks. They have to see me. The true me." I answered back.
"Suit yourself," said Swan. "Well here come the twins, Todd and Tammy. You guys ready for your first day of first grade?"
"Yes," exclaimed Todd.
"A little scared," answered Tammy. "How about you, Sammie, are you ready for school?"
As I’ll ever be. Jay said if I needed to talk. To go to the office and ask them to call him down."
"Oh, honey, you’ll make it," Dad said.
"Thanks" I answered.
I went to the refrigerator and got out the milk. I tried to drink it but I was to nervous.
"Hey. Pour me a glass while you have the milk out." Jay said.
"Sure. You want a big glass or a small one?" I asked.
"Medium. All set for school?" Jay asked. "Remember what I told you."
"I will."
"Sammie, can I call you down if I can’t handle it?" asked Tammy.
"Tammy you can’t, we’re in different buildings. But tell you what you can take Inch to school with you if he will help." I told her.
"You mean it?" she shot right back.
"Yes. Todd you can take Jolly. That is if you want to."
"Thanks." Said Todd.
