*I don't know if i ever intended this to be a full story or if it was just an idea in my head that had to get out
The man looked at the girl and slowly walked towards her. He had no intention of hurting her. He just wanted to get a closer look at her face. He thought he was seeing a ghost. The girl that belonged to that face had passed away some years ago. So he really thought he was seeing a ghost and that’s why he wanted a closer look.
"What do you want you foul old man?" The girl asked.
The man just looked at her and realized it couldn’t be who he thought it was because she wouldn’t have called him a foul old man. He turned away from the girl and started to walk in the opposite direction. The girl followed him and pushed him into a wall.
"I don’t like being looked at you idiot." She said this time and walked away.
Undecided what to think he wiped away the little bit of blood trickling from his nose and went towards a staircase that had just appeared because he didn’t remember seeing it before. He went up the staircase because that’s the direction the stairs where headed. When he reached the top he walked a ways and then turned around and the staircase was gone. He reached up and scratched his head. Then he saw a young boy standing a few feet away looking at him.
"Do you know where my mother is?" The little boy asked.
The man inched closer to the boy and shook his head. For he didn’t even know where he was let alone where the boy’s mother was. The boy started to cry and then he ran towards the staircase, which reappeared. The boy ran down them. The man was going to follow him but when he tried to go down the staircase, he kept going straight. He didn’t understand this at all. So he turned around and saw elevator doors and like the staircase, the doors just appeared. He had a puzzled look on his face but stepped into the elevator and pushed a button. This time he went down. When the doors opened, he stepped out. He looked around. For where he was now looked like the same place he saw the girl. He didn’t want to run into her again so he turned around to get back on the elevator, but it wasn’t there, just a plain wooden door was there. He tried to open the door but it wouldn’t budge.
"Say old chap, you won’t get it open that way." An Englishman said. So to prove the point the Englishman simple knocked on the door and it opened. "See that’s the way to do it." Then he walked through the door and it shut after him.
The man decided to try this. So he knocked on the door. It opened. He walked through but he didn’t see the Englishman, instead he saw a little girl. She was playing hopscotch. She threw a stone and then went after it. The man thinking this looked quite entertaining decided to try it. So he walked over and picked up a pebble and threw it on the hopscotch board. He started to do it but the little girl came and picked up his pebble and threw it into a little pond that appeared like the staircase, elevator, and door.
"Mister you can’t play hopscotch, you’re too old." She said and went back to playing.
The man figuring the little girl was right turned to knock on the plain wooden door but it was gone, like the others. So he scanned the room he was in till he noticed another staircase. He walked over to it and went down, because like the first one that’s the direction it was going. When he got to the bottom of the staircase he saw the Englishman again.
"Well old chap it seems you’ve made it through the door." Said the Englishman.
The man nodded and walked towards the Englishman. The Englishman was sitting in an armchair reading a book. When the man reached the Englishman he noticed there was another chair with the same book on it. So picking up the book and then sitting down the man started to read the book. He was about to comment to the Englishman when he noticed that the Englishman had gotten up and left. Think nothing of it, the man got up himself and headed towards the staircase, which didn’t disappear, or if it had he didn’t notice. He started to walk down it, but realizing that when he came to the room and saw the Englishman the staircase had gone down then, so they should go up now but no the staircase was going down. When he reached the bottom, he saw the girl that had called him a foul old man. He didn’t want her to see him so he tried to go back up the stairs but he couldn’t.
"It’s you ‘gain idiot. Didn’t think I’d run into you." She said walking over to him.
He didn’t want to get hurt by her again so he backed up. But she kept moving towards him. Trying to think of a way out he noticed a metal door on the opposite side of the room. He made a dash for it but the girl cut him off.
"Listen, do you hear the water?" She asked him.
He gave her a puzzled look and shook his head. For he heard no water, and surely she was only hearing things. So once again he headed towards the door. But the girl reached out and grabbed the back of his shirt.
"You mean you can’t hear the water? You are an idiot aren’t you? It’s just on the other side of the door."
The man thinking she meant the door he was about to go through just shrugged and opened it. And there was no water there, no trace of any water. So he looked over his shoulder at her and shook his head. He walked through the door and for once he was surprised not to see anyone in the room. So he looked around.
"Hey you!" A rough voice said.
The man turned around and pointed to himself. For now he saw a teenage boy. Thinking the boy had the wrong person, the man turned around again and started back in the direction he was going.
"I said hey you! I meant you." The boy ran to the man. "Don’t you know it’s against the law to trespass? This is my turf and you ain’t allowed here."
The man startled by the fact that he was trespassing decided to leave. But when he tried to find a place to exit by he couldn’t find one. The teenage boy getting upset because the man wouldn’t leave pushed him through the wall. Now the man was truly perplex. How could he go right through a solid wall? He was in a different room now. He put his hand on the wall he just went through and his hand started to disappear. Scared at the thought of loosing his hand he quick jerked it back. He looked around the room and saw a young woman. She saw him.
"Have you seen my little boy? He seems to be missing."
The man thinking she was talking about the little boy that ran away from him. He nodded his head. The woman’s eyes lit up. She was so excited. She ran to the elevator and pushed the up button. When the door open she got in, then the door closed and she was gone, so was the elevator. The man looked around the room. Then he saw a staircase, but the stairs were moving. He didn’t know where it went but he figured it couldn’t hurt. So he walked over and carefully stepped on to the moving staircase. Then he went up he wasn’t moving his legs, the stairs did the work. When he got to the top he saw the little boy and young woman together.
"Sir I found my mother. She was here the whole time." The little boy said when he saw the man.
The man smiled at the site. To see the two reunited was a beautiful thing.
