Story-The Orange Cat

The orange cat crept up to the girl sleeping in the grass. He started to bat at her hair. As he did so the girl slightly stirred. The cat stopped for a moment then continued to bat her hair. The cat was having so much fun batting at the girl’s hair that he didn’t realize she was waking up. The girl slowly turned her head towards the cat. When the cat saw this he turned to run away from fear of being hurt again by a human. The girl started to pet the cat and he realized that this human was different, he didn’t know why he just did.
"Oh, Cat, you don’t have to run away. I wouldn’t hurt you." The girl said as she continued to pet him. The cat for some reason could understand her evening though he was a cat.
"Meow." Was all he dared say at the moment, just in case she could understand him as well.
"Oh, I wish I could understand you. You seem like you’d be an intelligent cat to talk with. Maybe I could try one of my spells. That is if you don’t mind?" The girl said. She took out a book and looked through it. She kept flipping until she came to the right page.
"Hiss." He said not quite understanding her.
The girl said some strange words that the cat had never heard. When the girl was done saying the strange words, she looked at the cat.
"Well? Can you talk?" She asked a little impatiently.
"My dear girl, I’ve always been able to talk just not like you." He said.
All of a sudden his eyes got wide and he realized he could talk like the girl.
"It worked. Woohoo!" The girl said.
"And who are you to change the way I talk?"
"I’m sorry for not introducing myself. I’m Samant, but everyone calls me Sam. And you are?" The girl said getting to her knees and doing a slight bow.
"I am Yazoo Wazee, but everyone simple calls me Yazoo." The cat said.
"Pleased to met you Yazoo. Sorry if you aren’t happy talking like me."
"Oh that’s not true. I’ve always wanted to talk human. I could understand it, but not talk it."
"Then why did you seem so upset when I made you talk human?" Sam asked.
"Because I have been hurt by humans before. I have learned not to trust your kind. But for some reason I believe you are different." Yazoo said.
Sam looked at Yazoo, wondering if this was really a cat or an evil wizards spell. She dared not ask for fear of hurting Yazoo’s feelings if he really were a cat. So she refrained herself from asking.
"Where did you come from Yazoo?" She asked instead.
"I am from here and there. Basically everywhere and anywhere."
"Really, not just from one place. I’m from Tronicia. Well that’s where I live not necessary born there."
"I see. You humans do not always make sense. Cats always make sense even if others don’t think so."
"Always make sense? That doesn’t seem possible. I mean not everyone makes sense sometime in their life."
"Cats always make sense at least to other cats. Though some cats can’t seem to understand me. I don’t know why."
"Maybe you really aren’t a cat. Maybe you were changed somehow by perhaps a spell of an evil wizard."
Yazoo looked at Samant as if she had solved a great mystery. A mystery that he had just figured out himself. He looked around trying to figure out what to say.
"That’s it isn’t it? You really aren’t a cat. You’re a human or some other animal changed into a cat."
"I don’t know. I have always been a cat, as far back as I can remember. Though it is possible that whoever changed me into a cat could have possible erased my memory. I mean it wouldn’t be the first time."
"Wouldn’t be the first time?"
"Samant, where are you?" A man’s voice called.
"Who is that?" Yazoo asked.
"I’m over here." Sam called to the voice.
"Sam, who mustn’t go off like that. You had your mother and I worried."
"I’m sorry father. I was talking to Yazoo here." Sam said as she points to Yazoo.
"Dear how do you know that’s the cat’s name? Cats can’t talk."
"On the contrary, sir, cats can talk. Whether or not you understand me is another story."
"A cat that can talk? I’m hearing things."
"No father your not he really can talk."
"THE CAT IS EVIL! GET AWAY FROM IT, SAMANT!" Her father said as he grabbed Samant’s arm and pulled her away from the cat.
"Father, no! I want to stay and talk with Yazoo!"
"That cat is no good it talks like us."
"I only talk like you because of your daughter, she made me talk like this. She’s very good at her age."
"You mean my daughter did this to you?" Samant’s father asked Yazoo.
"Yes. I couldn’t make myself talk. I’m not that talented in magic. Though I do try to pick up little spells here and there."
"Samant made you talk? That is a spell beyond her age. She couldn’t possible have made you talk."
"But father I did." Samant chimed in.
"Wait tell your mother hears this," He said as he started to walk towards Samant’s mother. "Well don’t just stand there bring the cat with you."
"Yazoo would you come and join us for a meal? I don’t know which meal but would you?" Samant asked.
"I’d be honored." He said as he stood up, stretched and followed Samant and her father.
