Story-"Pico Jones"

“When the producer called me a few months ago about talking tonight, one thing came to mind ‘Why me?’.  I’m by no means famous enough to stand in front of you, the audience.  The producer told me, the manager of the artist we’re honoring asked if I could give the talk.  I still didn’t understand, until I found out who I was talking about.  Then another problem arose, what to talk about.  The producer told me the words would come.  So that’s what I’ll talk about, how the artist we’re honoring tonight found the words.”
I took a deep breathe and contuined on hoping not to lose anyone to boredom. I don’t think I did, but I think they were happy when I came to a close. “Ladies and gentlemen, please help me to show our appreciton to someone who’s near and dear to my heart.  The artist who after a decade found enough words to give us 3 albums, 7 hit singles and 10 chart toppers.  PICO JONES!!!”
The audience started clapping as Pico got out of his seat and started walking toward the stage.  His eyes locked with mine and we smiled.  When he got up on the stage he gave me a hug.  “Ladies and gentlemen.  I’m honored that you could all be here to share this moment.  I never thought I’d win the best artist award of the decade.”  He paused and looked at me and then back at the audience.  “I’m sure you’re also wondering who this young woman is who has been tlaking to you for the last thirty minutes.  Autumn always told me I’d find the words.  She never promised when I’d get them.  But she always said they’d come.  And they did.  Autumn and I met in high school, and became friends.  I was shocked that she was here tonight.  My manager never mentioned anything to me about it.  I had an idea but I never thought anything of it.  So once again, thank you for honoring me tonight and for being here to share the moment.”  Pico finished his little speech and then we headed towards backstage.
“What are you doing here?”  He asked as soon as we were out of earshot.
“Like I said the producer contacted me.  He mentioned that your manager said that you mentioned me alot and how you were impressed that the words actually came.  And that you’d been meaning to repay me somehow.  Well he thought he’d give you a little something else you’d have to repay me for.”  I took a look at Pico.  He hadn’t changed much since the last time I saw him.  He still had the straggly beard that was unkept, but it was part of his image now and heaven forbid you change an image of the artist that just won the Best Artist of the Decade award.  He had gotten rid of his glasses a long time ago and was content with contacts, because in a few months he’d have laser surgery done to correct his eyes.

*This one I started with an amazing friend in mind.  But once again the story idea is there but not finished!
