Samant 3

"D-damsel, are y-y-you sure?" I asked.
"Yes I am."
"Very well," I said and put Damsel to sleep.
"I really don’t want to do this but…"
"Eternal you can do it." I said.
"Besides, she’s not dreaming I can’t walk her dreams if she’s not dreaming."
"Hmmm…that does create a problem."
"Yep, it does. I guess I can’t walk her dream." He said.
"One moment," I said. I pulled some rose powder and sprinkled it on her forehead. "There she should be dreaming now."
He looked at her and sighed. "Yep she is now," He kinda glared at me.
"Do you want to find Kain or not?" I asked him.
"I do want to find him…well here goes nothing."
I watched as Eternal went into a trance…he was like he was asleep. He started walking. He never bumped into anything. It was like the dream was taking place in this room. Then all of a sudden Damsel let out a scream and woke up. Eternal came out of the trance and bumped into a table.
"Well what did you find?" She asked.
"You must have been reliving a past event. I saw a man riding a horse and all of a sudden he was turned into a dragon. Did you see this happen?"
"No I did not. But the one I love was transformed into a dragon. Do you mean to tell me that he was turned into a dragon on his way to see me?"
"I’m assuming that’s what happened. And seeing the dragon, you thought it ate your love. So you had your father send for a dragon slayer. But your dragon still lives, because the dragon slayer killed the wrong dragon," Eternal said.
"Wow I’m impressed. I believe that is what happened. But what dragon did he kill then?"
"I am wondering if the dragon slayer was Kain, and the dragon my father. You would not know which slayer your father hired with out checking the records. But as to what dragon he killed I do not know…unless listed in the records is the date Kain came back saying he killed the dragon," Eternal mumbled.
"I will have my father’s records checked immediately," Damsel said. She rung a bell and summoned an attendant.
"You rang ma’am?" The attendant said.
"Yes. I did. I would like you to get me father’s records on all those he has hired,"
"But ma’am…no one is allowed to look at them…not even you."
"Do you dare disobey me?"
"Damsel, if I may interrupt," I said.
"What is it Samant?"
"Well, if my memory serves correctly, was not the oldest wizard an advisor to your father? Could he be able to get a hold of the records?"
"Maybe…Attendant, tell the oldest wizard that I request his presence."
"Yes, ma’am," The attendant said as he backed out of the doorway.
"Now Eternal, is Kain the only thing that has brought you to Tronicia?" Damsel said turning to face Eternal.
"Yes, hunting Kain is my life. I know only the revenge I seek," He said.
"I see. Have you no family?"
"The only family I had Kain killed."
"Eternal, you have no relations what so ever?" I asked.
"None, at least none that will claim I’m related to them."
Just as Damsel was about to speak again the oldest wizard appeared at the door. He was dress in a purple robe with black accents on it.
"Damsel you have requested my presence and I’d like to know why?" He asked.
"My liege I am sorry. I was unable to grant this young man his favor and I was hoping you would be able to."
"And what do you ask, Eternal?" The wizard asked.
"I was…well…umm…" Eternal said.
"Oldest wizard, Eternal is new to our city, he was wondering if the king had hired any dragon slayers," I said looking straight at him.
"I see, yes I do remember that he hired a dragon slayer, I do not remember the name that I’d have to look up in the records."
"Would you be so kind as to look?" Damsel asked.
"For you Maria, I will. But I am not pleased with getting pulled away from my meditation."
"Thank you," Maria said bowing her head. I followed her and did also.
As the old wizard went to check, Eternal kept going from one foot to another.
"Eternal, relax," I said as I placed my hand on his shoulder.
"I can’t." He said.
I started for the door.
"Where are you going?" Eternal said.
"I’m going to go walking in the court yard. If you need me just yell out Damsel’s window," I said as I walked a little bit more and then transported myself to the courtyard.

I didn’t wonder far from the window so I could hear the conversation between Eternal and Damsel.
"Do you like her?" Damsel asked Eternal.
"I’ve just meet her…"
"That’s not what I asked."
"I think I like her…She’s not like any of the others I meet. She’s willing to help a complete stranger."
"That’s Sam for you. She doesn’t put herself first, well most of the time she doesn’t."
"But what does it matter, Jon asked her to marry him, I heard Alric and Kiya talking about it."
"He may have asked her, but she hasn’t answered. Her feelings for him aren’t as strong as his are for her. He goes away for long periods of time. And I believe the love she had for him drifted. I think that’s what’s happening with Alric and Kiya."
"But I too would be gone for long periods of time. So I would be no different then Jon. And Alric and Kiya seem to be doing fine."
"They are good at hiding it. Jon just wants too much from Sam. She gives something and gets nothing in return."
"That’s not right!"
"Maria I have brought your father’s records," The oldest wizard said.
"Oh good. Eternal yell to Sam and tell her the records are here."
"SAM!"
"What?"
"The records are here, come up," He said.
I transported myself to Damsel’s room.
"Maria your father indeed did hire a dragon slayer by the name of Kain. But it does not say what kind of dragon he killed at least not in the records I have access for."
"Thank you, I shall see if my father wrote anything in his journal," Damsel said.
"Very well I leave you now." The oldest wizard said and he disappeared.
"Well it appears that my father did hire him. If you’ll wait here I’ll go get father’s journal." Damsel said as she left the room.
Eternal looked around, I could tell he was getting a little nervous. I went over to him.
"Eternal?"
"What?’ He said a little shocked as if he had thought I’d stay were I was.
"Well, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop…but did you mean what you said?"
"You heard what Damsel and I were talking about?" He whispered.
"Yes, I did. I didn’t mean to listen in, honest."
"No that’s okay, in some ways I’m glad you heard. I wouldn’t have been able to tell you myself. I’ll admit I don’t think it’s right the way he treats you. Or the way Damsel says he does."
"She’s right. He doesn’t do anything in return. I keep telling myself he’ll change, but I’ve been saying that for a few months now. I don’t know if I could handle being married to him if he keeps being full of himself."
"If I could do anything to help I would…but I don’t think Jon take very well to a complete stranger not minding his own business."
"I’ve already made up my mind. I just have to tell him, but I’m afraid of what he’ll do."
"I won’t let him hurt you. You were willing to help me, a stranger, who you had just, meet. I would like to return the favor by making sure he doesn’t hurt you."
"That’s kind of you Eternal. I might just take you up on the offer."
Just as he was about to say something Damsel walked back in. She was carrying a tattered book.
"I have my father’s journal. I’ll check to see if he wrote anything about Kain. Let me see…" As Damsel started flipping through the book, I could tell that Eternal was debating something. I’m not sure what it was but after a few minutes he took my hand and gave it a squeeze and then dropped it. I looked at him and smiled.
"Find anything Damsel?" I asked.
"Not yet. He doesn’t have the entries dated."
"That can make it difficult to find the right one then." Eternal said.
Damsel kept looking. I sat down on a chair that was near Damsel. Eternal just stayed standing. Then after a couple of minutes, Damsel jumped up.
"I think I found something."
"Here let me see," Eternal said going and taking the journal. He read the entry and closed it. "It was my father, that Kain killed. He told your father what the dragon looked like. Kain didn’t get all the money he was promised because it was the wrong dragon."
"Eternal, I’m sorry." Damsel said.
"Don’t be. I need no sympathy from you or anyone. Samant let’s go." He said as he walked out of the room.
"I’m sorry Damsel. He did the same to me when I said I was sorry. His life revolves around finding Kain. He said he knows no other life."
"Let me know if he finds him."
"Yes, I will." I said and I started to leave.
"Samant, one more thing."
"Yes?" I said turning around.
"Let me know how things work out between you two."
I nodded my head and left. I ran to catch up with Eternal.
"Hey, wait up!"
"You should move faster." Eternal said.
"Wait, stop right there. Who are you to tell me what to do? You don’t boss people around like that here. I didn’t have to help you find out about Kain. You already knew he killed your parents. You wanted to know where he was. Did you find that out? No I don’t think you did." I said a little upset. I started walking away from him.
"Samant, I’m sorry. I had no right treating Damsel the way I did. I had no right treating you the way I did after you helped me the way you did. I just want to get Kain so bad…I know nothing else."
"I forgive you. I want to show you something." I said as I went back to him. I transported us to mine and Jon’s spot.
"What is this place?"
"It’s where Jon proposed to me. But it holds no really meaning besides that."
"Oh that’s right…did you answer him yet?"
"No. But I know the answer I’ll give him."
"What answer you’ll give who?" Jon said as he came up from behind.
"Jon, I-I-I didn’t expect you to b-be here." I stammered out.
"So I gathered," he said looking at Eternal. "Why’d you bring him here Sam? I thought this was our spot?"
"It’s a free place we can go where we please…" Eternal said.
"Stay out of this, stranger."
"Jon, I brought him here to show him the view of the countryside."
"It’s our spot Sam. Our spot!" Jon said pushing me a little.
"I’m sorry if I had known you’d act this way I wou…" I said but he interrupted.
"Sam, you had no right to bring him here." Jon said slapping me across the face.
"Hey stop that," Eternal said stepping between Jon and me. His fists clenched. "If you love her as much as you say you do, you wouldn’t hurt her."
"Eternal you have no say in this," Jon said. "Samant, I want an answer now."
"I say I do have a say." Eternal said going up to Jon.
"Eternal, please, don’t. Jon I can’t. No, not that I can’t I won’t marry you. If you are going to hurt me like this and treat my friends like you treat Eternal forget it. That and I know someone else likes me too. They are a lot nicer and aren’t full of themselves!" I said and turned around to look at the countryside.
"Sam, I’m sorry." Jon said coming over and taking me in his arms. I pushed away from him.
"Jon don’t…" I said and started walking.
"Samant wait," Eternal said and caught up to me. "Are you going to be alright?"
"I-I don’t know." I said as I started to cry. Eternal gave me a hug.
"Hey, if you need a shoulder I’m here."
"Thanks." I whispered. I transported us to the house. When we got there we stood out side for a while and then went into the house. Kiya looked up when we walked in.
"Sam, are you okay? You’ve been crying." Kiya said as she got up and came over.
"I’m fine. Really I am. I just need to think for a while." I said as I went to my wardrobe. I started taking things out and shrinking them. Then put them in my pouch.
"Where are you going?" Alric said.
"Somewhere to think."
"Did you want some company?" Yazoo asked looking up from the catnip.
"No I need to be alone, but thank you for the offer, Yazoo. I don’t know when I’ll be back. If Jon comes around wondering where I am, tell him you don’t know. You won’t be lying then." I walked out of the house. Someone was following me, I could hear the footsteps.
"Sam…" Alric said.
"What?" I said turning around.
"I know Kiya won’t tell you this herself…but we called off the wedding. We decided it just wouldn’t work. I didn’t want to be the one to tell you…but I thought you should know."
"Thanks, I’m sorry to hear that the wedding is called off. I really need to go. I’ll be back as soon as I’m through thinking." I said. Alric came over to me and gave me a hug and then went back into the house. I turned back around and headed towards the plains. I decided I didn’t want to transport anywhere I just wanted to walk. I was amazed at all the things I never noticed before along the side of the trail, all the flowers that were blooming, the butterflies, and the other animals.
"I wonder why I never saw this side of Jon. He’s never hit me before…maybe he was jealous of Eternal. I can’t believe that Alric and Kiya called off the wedding… though Alric had mentioned something about loving someone new. I didn’t think he was serious. I thought he was just saying that to see Kiya’s reaction. Maybe it was true." I said to myself. Then I got the feeling I was being followed. I looked around but I didn’t see anyone. I decided it must have been nothing and kept walking. When I finally reached the plains, I found a rock to sit on and rest.
"Excuse me." A man said.
"Yes?" I said turning around. The man had grayish white hair and he wore some kind of armor. He looked to be in his late forty’s early fifty’s. He was over six feet tall. He also had three scars over one eye.
"Do you know the way to Tronicia?"
"I do."
"Then perhaps you could tell me the way. I’m lost."
"It’s just to the north, maybe three or four miles."
"Thank you, by the way, my name is Kain."
"Kain, as in the dragon slayer Kain?" I said my eyes widen.
"Yes, have you heard of me?"
"I only know that you killed the wrong dragon at one time."
"Who are you? I know not of killing the wrong dragon."
"I’m Samant, a traveler."
"Don’t lie girl. You are no traveler. You’re a wizard. I can see a spell book sticking out of your pouch. Now why do you say I killed the wrong dragon?"
"You weren’t supposed to kill Infinity, you were suppose to kill Damsel’s boyfriend who got turned into a dragon."
"You must know Eternal. That’s the only way you could know about Infinity. Now you can do me another favor. Where is Eternal?" Kain asked, he pulled out a sword and moved closer to me.
"I don’t know…I haven’t seen him since yesterday."
"You lie again." He said moving closer.
"I honestly don’t know where he is!"
"Well when you do see him let him know I am looking for him and as a reminder to you…" he said as he slashed my chest with the sword.
"Why me?" I said as I touched the blood coming from my chest
"Because you are here and he is not. I leave you now and remember what I told you." He said and then I blacked out. When I woke up Eternal was kneeling beside me.
"Sam, are you okay?" He asked.
"Kain…"
"What about Kain? Is he the one who did this to you?"
"Yes…he…he…" I said.
"Don’t talk, rest, I’ll see what I can do." He closed his eyes. I could tell he was concentrating. He touched the wound and then it was gone. He was breathing really hard and sweating. I touched the place where the wound had been.
"It’s gone…I didn’t’ know you could heal."
"I can. Not an expert yet. It still takes the breathe out of me though."
"Thank you."
"Now what about Kain?"
"He was here looking for you…he didn’t say why he was, just that he was. He slashed me so I’d remember."
"I think he’s decided it’s time to rid the world of me now."
"What? Kill you?"
"Yes, kill me."
"Oh Eternal that’s terrible. Is there anything I can do? Hey wait how’d you know where I was?"
"No there’s really nothing you can do. And as to how I knew where you were…I followed. I lost site of you just after you entered the plains…in that time you must have had your run in with Kain. I’m sorry I wasn’t there to stop him."
"At least you’re here now." I said, giving him a kiss on the cheek, he blushed.
"Yeah, you’re right, I’m here now. I don’t plan on leaving either." He said putting his arms around my waist.
"Eternal?"
"Yes?"
"Did you mean what you said when talking to Damsel? About liking me?"
"No I didn’t mean it. Well at the time I meant it. Now it’s more like…I love you."
"What?" I said my eyes wide.
"I love you…at least that’s what I think it is now." He said.
"Eternal…you just meet me how ca…" I said. He stopped me by giving me a kiss.
"I just know." He said smiling. I smiled back.
"Well I hope your ‘I just know’ attitude is right…because I think I have that feeling too."
"You think?"
"I think…it’s still too soon after Jon. I know that much. So maybe what I feel isn’t for you maybe it’s still for Jon, though I doubt it."
"That’s why you came out isn’t it? You want to think about what happened and then Alric told you about him and Kiya."
"I was hoping they would last…only because I had the feeling that Jon and I wouldn’t. With the fact that they were already engaged, Jon and me weren’t. It was wishful thinking on my part."
"Samant, I will protect you any way I can. You know that don’t you?"
"I do, now, at least." I said. We just sat and looked at each other for a while. Then we got up and started walking some more.
"Sam, I should tell you some things about Kain…just in case you run into him and I’m not around."
"Good idea. But do you really think something with Kain will happen?"
"If he knows how I feel about you…he may use you to get to me. Like the mighty one used Jon to get to you earlier."
"How’d you know about that? I didn’t mention it to you."
"Between Yazoo and Gandof I found out what happened. Don’t be angry with them. They were talking about you saying no to Jon and got on about that too."
"I’m not angry…I’d figure you’d find out sooner or later."
"If I didn’t, I’m sure you’d have told me sooner or later."
"True, I would have told you. Now about Kain, what should I know?"
"For one thing he’ll kill anything, not just dragons. He’ll kill anything that will get him money. He’ll kill you or threaten to if he can get me by doing so."
"He would do that? Just to get to you?"
"I wouldn’t put it past him. I think he’s been paid to kill a few wizards even."
"Kill wizards?"
"Yeah, but I wouldn’t let him kill you."
"That’s reassuring…Do you think he would kill me to get to you?"
"I’m not sure…but like I said I wouldn’t put it past him. Come on let’s get back to the house."
As Eternal and I headed back to the house, I had a feeling that Kain would be back and not just after Eternal either. I decided not to tell Eternal about this feeling I didn’t know how he’d react. I knew I’d have to tell him sooner or later. When we reached the house, it looked different.
"Hello?" I said as I stepped to the door.
"Samant is that you?" A voice said. It sounded like Yazoo’s.
"Yeah it’s me. Eternal’s here too…what happened?"
"Well if you’d be so kind as to open the closet door and let me out I’ll tell you."
I went over to the closet and opened the door and let Yazoo out.
"Now what happened?" Eternal asked.
"Well," Yazoo started. "Some man came looking for you Eternal…at least I’m assuming it was you he was looking for. He kept asking where the dream walker was. Anyways, Jon, Gandof, and Alric tried to fight him off but it didn’t work too well. I got shoved into the closet and Kiya got locked in the bathroom I believe…I don’t know for sure. I don’t know what happened to Jon or Gandof…Alric got stabbed in the leg with a horn the man was carrying. That’s all I remember…I tried to help myself but I didn’t get a chance to."
"It has to have been Kain." I said picking up Yazoo and then looking at Eternal.
"It must be…I didn’t think he’d find your home Samant, I’m sorry. I’ll help fix it up."
"Eternal that’s not important right now." I said petting Yazoo. "What’s important is that we find Alric, Kiya, Gandof and if we have time Jon…"
"You’re right. I’ll go see if Kiya is in the bathroom…umm…where is the bathroom?"
"Down the hall, first door on the left." Yazoo said.
As Eternal went to check I took Yazoo over to the table, which was turned over. I mumbled some words and it turn back the right way. I set Yazoo on the table.
"Are you ok Yaz?"
"I’m quite alright now that I’m out of the closet."
"That’s good." I said and made a bowl of milk appear.
"Sam you truly know what I need."
"Found Kiya…she’s out though." Eternal said.
"Oh here, I have something for that." I said and got up. I went to the cupboard and pulled out a bottle. I went and handed it to Eternal. "Here move it under her nose."
"Alright I’ll be back."
"Sam this is the best milk I had…well mother’s was the best. But this is good too."
"Thanks. Did you want anything else or can I go help Eternal?"
"Go help him with Kiya I’ll be fine for now."
"Okay." I said. I went to the bathroom to help Eternal. "Need any help?"
"Yea. She’s starting to wake up…I think we should get her in a different spot though, it’s not very comfortable in here."
"Alright. Let’s do that now."
Eternal and I got on either side of Kiya and got her up on her feet. We went out of the bathroom and stood in the hall.
"Which way?" Eternal asked.
"All the way down. Last door on the right."
We took Kiya to the room and laid her on the bed.
"Well it appears she’s fallen back asleep. I guess that’s ok. She has a little bump on her head. She’ll heal that when she wakes up I’m sure." I said.
"Yea let’s go see if you can find the others." Eternal said taking my hand and leading me to the main room.
"Well I never thought I’d see you again girl." I heard someone say. "And with the person I’m looking for to."
"Kain." Eternal said.
"You remember me boy?"
"How could I forget you…you killed my parents."
"Yes it’s true I killed your parents…but I didn’t mean to kill your mother I had to do so because she let you get away from me."
"So that’s what a mother is suppose to do, protect her children." I said.
"You better remember that girl. It might haunt you." Kain said. "Now Eternal are you going to let me kill you or do I have to do it by force."
"By force!"
I looked at Eternal, then Kain, and then back at Eternal. I saw a light in Eternal’s eyes I hadn’t seen in anyone’s eyes. I let go of Eternal’s hand and started to head towards Yazoo. Before I got there, Kain lunged and grabbed my wrist.
"Girl you should’ve stayed where you were."
"Let go of me." I said trying not to yell. "I have nothing to do with this."
"Oh but you do…see Eternal loves you and he’ll do anything to keep you save. Even perhaps die…"
I saw Yazoo get up. He jumped on Kain and scratched his back.
"Stupid cat!" Kain said and hit Yazoo off of him.
"Yazoo!"
"Now listen to me, Eternal. If you want her alive, die easily, don’t put up a fit."
Eternal looked at me. I could tell he was caught in between weather to take revenge on his parents or saving me.
"Eternal, don’t worry about me, take your revenge." I said.
Eternal nods his head and took out some sort of sword.
"Kain, no one hurts my loved ones and gets away with it."
"Very well." Kain put his hands around my throat and started choking me. I mumbled some words and some fire shot Kain’s hands. He let go of me and started hitting his hands against his cloak to put the fire out. I scrambled the best I could to where Yazoo fall. I took him in my arms, and gave him a little bit of a shock. Yazoo perked up a little and I knew he was going to be ok.
"Sam, are you okay?" Eternal said coming over to me.
"I’m fine…" I said.
Eternal took my face in his hands. He looked me in the eyes.
"Sam I love you. I won’t let anything else happen to you." He said and then gave me a soft, gently kiss on the mouth.
"Umm…I hate to break this little moment up but here he comes." Yazoo said. He wasn’t joking. Kain was coming over to us. He grabbed the back of Eternal’s armor.
"We aren’t finished yet." Kain said. He was about to hit Eternal in the face when he stopped. He looked at the amulet around Eternal’s neck. "This will have to be finished later." He said as he let go of Eternal and left the house.
"That was close. Why’d he stop?" Yazoo asked.
"He saw the amulet…that’s why he stopped…I don’t know why it made him stop though." I said.
"I do…"
